Term Contracts
Term contracts are given to Term Faculty and to unranked faculty, and are limited to the term of employment outlined in the letter of appointment.
- Term contracts are not tenure-track contracts, and do not confer upon a faculty member any entitlement to continued employment after the term specified in the letter of appointment.
- Term contracts may also be used with ranked faculty in special circumstances as follows: special summer session contracts, replacements for faculty on leave, or for short term curricular needs.
- Should the term faculty member be subsequently offered a tenure-track position, previous time served may be counted toward tenure with the approval of the Dean and the President after consultation with the Faculty Personnel Committee. Usually this should be negotiated at the time of the tenure-track appointment.
Probationary Contracts
Probationary contracts are given to ranked faculty members, either initially or on a renewable basis.
- Probationary contracts enable a tenure-track faculty member to apply for tenure, or for the Librarian, the Dean of the Chapel, and the Director of Professional Formation to apply for an extended term faculty appointment upon successful completion of the requirements..
- Probationary contracts are subject to non-renewal.
Continuing Contracts
Continuing contracts at the Iliff School of Theology are given to ranked faculty members who have attained tenure.
Faculty members employed under continuing contracts are entitled to annual contract renewal by the School, unless the contract is terminated as a result of a faculty member’s separation pursuant to the provisions.
Issuance and Receipt of Contract
All ranked faculty (probationary and continuing) contracts for the following academic year are to be mailed or otherwise delivered to the Faculty on or about June 1.
Each letter will specify the type of appointment, rank, salary, primary duties of the individual, the term of appointment and fringe benefits.
Acceptance of the contract is assumed unless the faculty member notifies the President’s office otherwise within a week of its receipt.
