Avoiding Sentence Fragments (A common mistake!)

At the Writing Center, we see A LOT of sentence fragments.  These are logical strings of words that begin with a capital letter and end with a period, but unbeknownst to our writers, are not actually full sentences.  Another way to refer to these sentence fragments is as "dependent clauses."  In order to make sure that one is writing complete sentences, one must know the difference between "independent" and "dependent" clauses.  Check out this site for a clear and concise explanation of independent and dependent clauses and protect yourself from ever making this mistake!
