You can download and install many of the available fonts provided by Google Fonts. Some of these include Lexend and Lexend Deca, which are initially designed for those with dyslexia. Below are instructions for installing fonts on your computer (Windows/Mac).
How to install Google fonts for Mac
- Navigate to Google Fonts
- Search for a font on the search bar at the top (e.g. Lexend Deca), hit the return key and select the font from the list.
- At the top right corner, click on Get font, then click on Download all.
- Once downloaded, navigate to your Downloads folder.
- Right click on the .zip font file > Open With > Archive Utility (or any other ZIP file extraction application).
- On your Mac, open the Font Book app (press the command + spacebar keys at the same time, then search for Font Book and hit return).
- Click on File > Add Fonts to Current User... > navigate to the font .tff file and click Open.
- After the font is added to Font Book, on the left side of Font Book, click on My Fonts.
- Right click on the font and click on Activate to enable the font for use with other applications.
How to download & install Google fonts for Windows
- Navigate to Google Fonts
- Search for a font on the search bar at the top (e.g. Lexend Deca), hit the enter key and select the font from the list.
- At the top right corner, click on Get font, then click on Download all.
- Once downloaded, navigate to your Downloads folder.
- Right click on the .zip font file and click on Extract All (follow the prompts to extract to downloads folder).
- On Windows, click on the Windows start menu and navigate to the following: Settings > Personalization > Fonts.
- Drag the font .ttf file to the box labeled Drag and drop to install.
- You should then see the font listed under Available fonts, allowing for the font to be used with other applications that works with custom fonts.
Custom Font on Google Chrome via Extension
- Navigate to the following link to install Force Custom Fonts extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- Click on Add to Chrome > Add extension.
- Click on the puzzle icon at the top right of your Chrome browser, then click on the pin icon next to Force Custom Fonts extension to pin the extension.
- Click on the extension, then Options.
- Select the custom font from the drop-down list, for all four down-down options.
- Click Save and close out of the window.
