Canvas and others have put together some excellent resources on how to use the new editor. Here are a few highlights:
Here is a quick look at the new editor menubar/toolbar. You can use the links below to learn about different aspects of the new editor.
Video Easier to Find
The studio video recorder/uploaded is now the only video management option and is much easier to locate. It appears on the toolbar as the blue icon that is a video screen with tentacles.
This will help us make better use of the most advance video tools in Canvas. For more of video in the new editor, see Using Video in the New Canvas Editor.
Autosave is Here
No more forgetting to save before moving to another part of the course and losing your work! The new editor will auto-save what you are working on in the editor as you work. NOTE: The auto saved content does not prompt for retrieval until you return to the item you were editing.
Menubar and Toolbar
- Menubar - above the Toolbar with Edit/View/Insert/Format/Tools/Table options. All functions can be found in these menus.
- Toolbar - icon driven easy access to functions, divided into sections with text formatting on the left, moving to links and media in the middle, with more page formatting at the right.
Toolbar More Options
Many of the items in the Toolbar have a small carat to the right of the icon that indicates more options available for that function. Clicking on the carat expands the options for that function. If you click on the toolbar icon, the editor will enact the default function for that icon. If you want to see more options, be sure to click on the carat.
Three Dots
If the editor does not have enough room to show all of the toolbar icons due to menus or pop ups taking up screen space, then 3 dots will appear at the far right end of the toolbar (you can see the 3 dots in the bulleted list image above). If you click on these 3 dots, the remaining toolbar icons will be displayed.
