Creating Links in Canvas

This article is focused on linking to external websites or internal pages/discussions in Canvas. If you are wanting to link to a File in your course, please see Linking to Files in the New Canvas Editor.

Linking to an External Website

1. Type the text you want to display for your link into the editor
2. Select/highlight this text
3. Click on the additional options carat next to the link icon in the toolbar
4. Choose External Links
5. Paste or type in the web address to which you are linking in the Link box
6. Click Done
7. This will create your link on the text you had selected in the editor.
8. Click Save to save your changes.

Linking Within Canvas Course

1. Type the text you want to display for your link into the editor
2. Select/highlight this text
3. Click on the additional options carat next to the link icon in the toolbar
4. Choose Course Links
5. The link selection pane will appear at the right of your screen
6. Search or browse for the course object to which you want to link (e.g. page, discussion, module, etc.) and select it from the list
7. This will create the link on the text you had selected in the editor.
8. Click Save to save your changes.
